THE ROBERT A. SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Robert A. Smith Memorial Scholarship

Mr. Robert Smith (1930 – 2022) resided in Newport with his wife, Miriam, who survives along with their adult children.  He was a certified public accountant and joined the Kiwanis Club of Newport in 1964 where he was an active member until his passing.

Mr. Smith was a Kiwanis leader in fundraising projects for community service through the club.  A past president, his consistent voluntary service has benefited the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee, many youth groups, food banks, homeless shelters, community social service agencies as well as historic commemorations, such as the Middle Passage Project.

Our Kiwanis Club created and named this scholarship in 2022 to honor his lifelong dedication to the ideals of service through volunteerism.  The club honored him with a surprise “red jacket” tribute in April, 2022, as the above picture shows.

It is our hope his example will inspire you, the scholarship recipient, to continue your own life-long volunteer service.
